CSD is honoured to be a part of an annual charity dance show known as Dancers Give Back (DGB), which brings dance studios across all of Ottawa together to raise awareness about mental health and give back to charities in need! In 2019, DGB raised $55,000 for the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, and in 2020, DGB raised $60,000 in support of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre!
The Full-Time Competitive senior students participate in multiple rehearsals leading up to the charity show to polish a routine that they will perform at DGB. Dance studios across Ottawa all prepare one dance routine that’s ready for the stage and come together to create one big live dance event held at Algonquin Commons Theatre! DGB performs a matinee and evening show, which anyone can attend to show support for the charities in need! Every year, DGB also provides an evening workshop for dance students in the Ottawa area to raise money for the cause and give dancers an educational and artistic experience outside of their dance studios. Each year DGB brings in guest teachers to provide classes for dancers to take, so they are always learning from new artists.
Dancers Give Back creates an inclusive environment within our own dance studios and the Ottawa dance community. CSD is proud to offer this experience to our dancers! We always inform our families when tickets become available and encourage everyone to show as much support as possible!
The CSD Spirit Squad was established in 2014 and founded by senior students on our Full-Time Competitive Team. It is a voluntary commitment that members can use towards volunteer hours for their high school diploma! Over the years, the CSD Spirit Squad has brought our studio closer than ever before, including the Full-Time, Part-Time, and Recreational programs. They work hard every year to bring excitement, laughter and a sense of community into our atmosphere, beyond just dance classes and rehearsals.
The CSD Spirit Squad hosts two main events annually: The Halloween Haunted Night (open to all CSD students) and The Christmas Sleepover (Full-Time & Part-Time only). These events have created memories that will last a lifetime. They also organize Spirit Weeks and mini activities throughout the year to help make your dancers’ experience here at CSD the best it can be. The CSD Spirit Squad also works hard to give back to the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they successfully raised over $2,000 for the Ottawa Food Bank!
Membership is currently limited to Full-Time Competitive students, who are required to go through a Mentorship program to join. On July 8th, 2025, the Canadian School of Dance hosted a free community barbecue to kick off registration for our 40th season of dance!
We served over 200 hamburgers and reconnected with current dance families, alumni, and familiar faces from seasons past. It was an incredible night of celebration, honouring the special community we’ve built in Barrhaven…since before there was even a Wal-Mart!
CSD is more than a dance studio; we’re a family-run business rooted in connection. Our vibrant community thrives because of the amazing kids, parents, caregivers, and lifelong cheerleaders who make it all possible.
We are so grateful for this amazing studio we call home – here’s to the next 40!
