Lorraine Barbeau A.D.A.P.T Jazz

Lorraine owned and operated a dance studio in Ottawa and brings over 30 years of experience to the industry.  She has distinguished herself as a teacher, choreographer and adjudicator.  Lorraine has expanded her teaching abilities by attending several dance conventions throughout Canada and the U.S.  Also, she has traveled to Broadway Dance Centre in New York City for classes.  Many of her students have won Overall High Score Awards including National Dance-Off competitions.  Some students have gone on to seek their own professional careers, such as touring companies, theatre companies and owning/operating their own studios.  One student performed for the Broadway production “Encore” in Tokyo Disney, Japan and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.  As a member of ADAPT, several of her students have achieved the highest grade of the syllabus, with several receiving scholarships.  Lorraine’s positive and upbeat teaching style has made her an excellent motivator and admired by all her students.

Cheryl Goodwin B.A. (Hon), E.T.C.; C.D.T.A Accredited

ADAPT Teacher(Ballet, Jazz, Tap)

Cheryl’s experience consists of being the Director of the Children’s Ballet Studio for 8 years, and teaching in the Ottawa area for 34 years. In addition, she is a Registered Teacher and Full Member of the Royal Academy of Dancing, the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers and holds the Elementary Certificate in ISTD National Branch. Cheryl Goodwin is fully bilingual and has attended courses in Toronto, Red Deer, Alberta and London, England. Under her tenure, students have been very successful in examinations and competitions. Cheryl has successfully assisted students in the Ottawa Valley attain their Teacher’s Diploma in the A.D.A.P.T. Jazz and Tap programme. She is currently specializing in Graded and Vocational R.A.D. Ballet. Cheryl has also successfully coached a student in attaining her Solo Seal Award – the highest performing award of the Royal Academy of Dance.

Nancy Pidgeon

B.A. (Carleton) TTP-Dip. (NBS), LISTID (Cecchetti) Registered Teacher Royal Academy of Dance – Nancy Pidgeon’s early training was in the method of the Royal Academy of Dance. She completed her intermediate Executant Examination and later went on to achieve her RAD Teaching Diploma. She graduated from the Teacher Training Program of the National Ballet School in 1983 after completing the National Dance Branch Elementary and intermediate with Honours (ISTD), the Intermediate Cecchetti Ballet Exam and the Associate Level Teaching Exam with Distinction (ISTD). Nancy spent another year at the National Ballet School working as an Assistant Teacher and completed her Licentiate Level Teaching Exam. Since her return to Ottawa, her teaching experience has been diverse and extensive. In 1986 she and three partners established National Capital Dance Educators and she worked there for fifteen years as well as a variety of other schools in the Ottawa area. In addition, Nancy has examined at Canterbury High School and at l’École secondaire de la Salle. She is a frequent guest teacher at the Cecchetti Seminars offered in Toronto on a bi-annual basis and she regularly attends the NBS Teaching Seminars featuring the work of Irene Dowd.

Jennifer Savoie

Jennifer has danced for 18 years, studying Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. She assisted Dana Hanes for five years and was a member of CSD’s Performing Ensemble and the CSD Competitive Team. Jennifer has taken workshops with Tap Dogs and Riverdance and appeared in a music video for a local singer, which appeared on Bravo. Jennifer won the Senior Tap Award in 1998, her high school Dance Award and the Senior Overall Dance Aware in 1999. In the summer of 2002, she danced in Las Vegas with the competitive team and was the Captain of the Canadian Dance Team at Footloose International Dance Championships. Jennifer’s choreographies have traveled with the competitive team on an International stage and have won several regional high score overall awards at ADA, CanDance and Footloose including High Score Overall Junior Duet/Trio in 2004, and High Score Overall Novice Intermeidate Duet/Trio in 2007. In 2004, Jennifer obtained a B.A. Honours in Communication from the University of Ottawa. Jennifer enjoys teaching all ages and believes that for any age, dance is an expression of feelings and emotions. Jennifer believes that the bonds, friendships and memories that are created through dance will last forever and the passion for dance that she has will continue to shine through her students.

Brianna Rowan

Brianna was a student at the Canadian School of Dance for 16 years, where she studied Ballet, Jazz and Tap. She was a teaching assistant in all disciplines for many years as well as a senior member of the competitive team until 2007. Brianna has been teaching dance at CSD for 8 years now. In 1997, she performed in “The Nutcracker” with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal at the National Arts Centre (NAC) and, in 1998, she performed the role of “Young Kim” in Show Boat, also at the NAC. From 2000 to 2003, she danced in Ballet Jorgen’s “The Nutcracker” at Centrepointe Theatre and was part of the Project Hellas CHEO fundraiser in 2005. In 2003 Brianna won the Senior Ballet Award at CSD. In 2008, Brianna was an adjudicator at the Superstar Dance Competition in Ottawa. She was a member of the University of Ottawa GeeGees’ Dance Team in 2008-2009. In 2010, Brianna graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology and Canadian Studies from the University of Ottawa after spending a semester abroad in the South of France. Brianna is fluent in both English and French.

Jessica Tite

Jessica was a teaching assistant in all disciplines for seven years and has trained in Ballet, Tap and Jazz for the past eleven years at the Canadian School of Dance (CSD). She was a member of the CSD Performing Ensemble and a senior member of the competitive dance team. Jessica has participated in many regional and international dance competitions, which includes Orlando and New York City. She has performed in Ballet Jorgen’s “The Nutcracker” at Centrepointe Theatre for four years and participated in Project Hellas, which was a fundraiser for CHEO also held at Centrepointe Theatre. One of her adventures was starting a dance team at Monsignor Paul Baxter Elementary School. Jessica, along with two other dancers, taught over 50 students ranging from the age of 10-12 years old. Jessica has attended CSD’s intensive workshop for the past nine summers and has worked with many guest teachers. Jessica has assisted and taught at CSD’s summer camp for four years, and also taught at the March Break Recreational Camp. This year she has taken on the role of teacher and is also choreographing for the competitive team. Jessica is currently in her fourth year of the Honours in Sociology program at the University of Ottawa.

Daniel Katz

Daniel is an accomplished hip hop dancer. From the age of 9, he’s taken classes and competed in the Ottawa area. He’s also attended several workshops led by hip hop professionals from across North America. For the past two years, Daniel has been a member of the Driven hip hop dance troupe, performing at community and private functions throughout the city. He has competed with Driven at the Canadian Hop Hop Championships. Daniel has taught hip hop at various high schools in the region, Carleton University, and at a city-run hip hop summer camp. In addition to teaching, Daniel is a Carleton University student.

Shauna Mckenna

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Mallory Rowan

Mallory Rowan was born into the world of dance – attending her first recital at only 4 weeks old. She has been a member of CSD’s competitive team since the age of six, and has also been a member of many hip hop troupes such as dTALE, Boss, and Pulse N Limited. She also participated in the non-profit dance troupe, Future Shock for four years. She continues to dance with Pulse N Limited and focuses on teaching recreational hip hop classes.

Samantha Simard

Samantha has trained at the Canadian School of Dance for the past twelve years in ballet and jazz. She has successfully completed numerous exams including her R.A.D Advanced II Exam and A.D.A.P.T Advanced Jazz exam. Over the course of her training she has participated in the Ballet Jorgen’s, “The Nutcracker”, attended many dance workshops, and competed regionally and nationally with CSD’s competitive dance team. Samantha has won “America’s Dancer of the Year” in five regional competitions and in her final year was awarded top ten at the American Dance Awards national competition. Samantha is currently in her second year of Bachelor of Commerce at Carleton University.

Katiana Pare

Katiana completed the ADAPT syllabus as an advanced Jazz and Tap dancer while training at the Canadian School of Dance. Her strong work ethic and motivated attitude has led to winning regional Dancer of the Year awards at both Candance and American Dance Awards. In 2010, she was the senior Jazz class winner and placed 3rd overall at the American Dance Awards National Dancer of the Year Titles competition. Her performance and technical skills have enabled her to win multiple scholarships to dance conventions and Millennium Dance Complex in LA. Katiana’s love and passion for the art continues to grow as she matures from a dancer into a teacher and choreographer.
